Wonderful music in a stunning setting! The 7th Annual Killaloe Chamber Music Festival takes place over the June Bank Holiday weekend in the picturesque and historic village of Killaloe, Co Clare on the shores of Lough Derg. We are privileged to have St. Flannan's Cathedral as our venue with its unique and welcoming atmosphere. We promise you four days of memorable concerts with excellent musicians and singers and music inspired by great works of literature, hence our theme "Notes from Literature". We open with an opera, there are performances by the award winning Navarra String Quartet and renowned concert pianist Michael McHale and the premiere of a new work by the exciting young Irish composer Sam Perkin. Late night Kathleen Turner sings Gershwin and throughout the week the unique voice of celebrated actor Barry McGovern will lead us into the world of Cervantes and Tolstoy. And there's lots more.

Killaloe Chamber Music Festival: Main Concert - “Kreutzer Sonata”
Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata is the key to tonight's concert. Dedicated by Beethoven to the famous violinist Rudolph Kreutzer, it inspired Tolstoy to write his novella of the same name during which the sonata is performed. Later the Tolstoy work was the inspiration for Janaček's Kreutzer Sonata. Tolstoy's jealousy of the composer Sergei Taneyev is well documented. We will hear some of Taneyev's most beautiful works for solo piano tonight.
