Wonderful music in a stunning setting! The 7th Annual Killaloe Chamber Music Festival takes place over the June Bank Holiday weekend in the picturesque and historic village of Killaloe, Co Clare on the shores of Lough Derg.  We are privileged to have St. Flannan's Cathedral as our venue with its unique and welcoming atmosphere.  We promise you four days of memorable concerts with excellent musicians and singers and music inspired by great works of literature, hence our theme "Notes from Literature".  We open with an opera, there are performances by the award winning Navarra String Quartet and renowned concert pianist Michael McHale and the premiere of a new work by the exciting young Irish composer Sam Perkin.  Late night Kathleen Turner sings Gershwin and throughout the week the unique voice of celebrated actor Barry McGovern will lead us into the world of Cervantes and Tolstoy.  And there's lots more.

Killaloe Chamber Music Festival: Festival Finale

This Concert is dedicated to the memory of John Kelly and Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin.

“Romeo and Juliet” is the theme of our final concert this year with music by Beethoven, Prokofiev and Bernstein.  The tomb scene from the Shakespeare play was the inspiration for the tragic second movement of Beethoven's String Quartet op.18 No.1.  Prokofiev's Ten Pieces for piano op.75 are drawn from his great ballet score Romeo and Juliet and in 1957 Leonard Bernstein based his contemporary setting of the story in New York's West Side.  We'll hear a suite from West Side Story arranged for Saxophone Quartet.

Beethoven String Quartet op.18 No.1 (Navarra String Quartet)

Reading of Shakespeare’s  “Romeo and Juliet” Performed by Aisling Ryan and Martin McCormack, students of the Department of Drama and Theatre Studies, Mary Immaculate College Limerick

Prokofiev 10 pieces from Romeo and Juliet op.75 for solo piano (Michael McHale piano)

Bernstein  West Side Story (arrangement) (Chatham Saxophone Quartet, Dave Mullen percussion)
