Blaithin Carney is delighted to announce her debut headline Dublin show for The Sugar Club on Lower Leeson Street for Thursday, March 15th, 2018. This announcement follows the success of Carney’s debut single ‘Rome’ entering the iTunes singer-songwriter chart at No.1 earlier this summer, and her most recent single ‘Close my Eyes’ entering at No. 2.
The singer has received wonderful airplay support across the country spending over two months on the RTE Radio 1 playlist alone, with her debut single, and as we write the current single, Close My Eyes sits happily on the RTE Radio 1 recommended list for its third week. 'Close My Eyes' also featured as a #2FMRisingArtist this November, a fabulous nod to receive from another national station. Both videos have also been received well on YouTube and other social media platforms. This show’s announcement adds another move forward for the Kildare based musician who has had a very impressive first year.
Carney teamed up with Gavin Glass and Scott Halliday at Orphan Recording Studios in early 2017 and recorded a series of songs. The new single 'Close My Eyes' comes from these sessions. Written by Carney, with string arrangements from Gavin Glass and Cormac Curran, the classically trained pianist's talent takes centre stage on the track.
Carney’s music touches on her broad range of influences from Tori Amos, Simon and Garfunkel, Alanis Morrisette to the formative impressions made by Bach and Ravel.
A little back information on Blaithin Carney
Blaithín CARNEY has two main loves; Music & English. Her musical journey began as a student of piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music when she was just four years of age. Years later, having graduated from UCD with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Music and English, Carney returned to the Academy to undertake a Masters in Music Performance.
In 2004 on a trip to Los Angeles, CARNEY met Sir Paul Holmes (the New Zealand broadcaster, reporter, writer and singer). The two would form a close friendship and collaborate on songs together. It was during this time that she also met renowned vocal coach, Tine Verbeke who contributed significantly to CARNEY’s development and presence as a vocalist.
