After a busy 2025 of touring and releasing their debut EP “Lackluster Writing Makes Fundamental Reading,” Belfast post-punk group Makeshift Art Bar have announced a Derry show in Sandinos on Thursday 23rd April 2026.
Makeshift Art Bar, Belfast’s rising sonic powerhouse, took 2025 by storm with their experimental noise-rock sound. Their debut EP, “Lackluster Writing Makes Fundamental Reading,” released on January 3rd, has been widely acclaimed by both radio and press, amassing over 210,000 streams on Spotify alone. BBC Radio 6 presenter Mary Anne Hobbs described their track “Bedwetter” as: “Imagine catching the tears of 1980s Bargeld and Cave and using them to wipe down adevastatingly beautiful cafe racer motorcycle.”
Known for their poetic chaos and jagged guitars, the band have delivered genre-warping performances across Europe, gracing stages at All Together Now, YPSIGROCK, and End of the Road. They also supported CHALK on their sold-out UK tour and embarked on their own 16 date headline tour across Ireland, The UK, and EU last autumn, cementing their reputation as one of the most fearless new voices in the underground scene.
Their sound is unpredictable yet familiar, a Frankenstein’s monster of post-punk, grunge, and electronic influences, all delivered with an unmistakable Belfast accent. What truly sets Makeshift Art Bar apart is their dynamism. Their music defies predictable structure, pitching and rolling with discordance and strange rhythms.Their songs are a juxtaposition of low, searing moments and explosive crescendos, volatile yet danceable in all the right ways.
“Lackluster Writing Makes Fundamental Reading” propelled the band to the forefront of the music industry, tearing across the UK with their wailing live shows and reaching audiences further abroad.They secured a BBC Radio 6 live session, playlisting, and even peaked at No. 3 in the UK Vinyl Single Charts with their Early Doors Dinked Edition. But this is just the beginning for Makeshift Art Bar. Their innate energy and fearless sound, is cementing its status as a trailblazer in the underground music world.
